In the second quarter of 2026, hotel companies saw widespread RevPAR gains bolstered in part by solid travel fundamentals.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, in particular, gave several companies a boost during the quarter, hotel CEOs highlighted during Q2 earnings calls. Marriott International and Hyatt also saw RevPAR gains driven by the luxury segment. On the quarterly results, a handful of hotel companies raised their full-year RevPAR growth outlooks.
In Las Vegas, Wynn Resorts saw RevPAR gains amid improving market demand from group travelers. Wynn competitors MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment both received multibillion-dollar go-private offers during the quarter. Caesars accepted its offer from Fertitta Entertainment, while MGM is evaluating a proposed sale to Barry Diller-owned media conglomerate People Incorporated.
Hotel executives also noted solid development gains during the second quarter. IHG Hotels & Resorts, Choice Hotels International and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts saw notable openings growth, while Hilton reported one of its best quarters for signings. Conversions remained a solid growth vehicle for IHG, Choice, Marriott and Wyndham in Q2.
Several hotel companies also made advances on the technology front, with IHG and Wyndham launching artificial intelligence-powered search tools in ChatGPT during the quarter. Meanwhile, Choice and Marriott furthered their respective enterprisewide AI deployment strategies.
Q2 also brought notable CEO news. In May, Choice announced the departure of former chief executive officer Patrick Pacious, naming company executive Dom Dragisich as interim CEO. And Wyndham shared that its CEO, Geoff Ballotti, was undergoing cancer treatment.
