G6 Hospitality, the company behind the Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands, is launching Studio 6 Plus, a new extended stay brand aimed at meeting traveler needs in the “rapidly growing upper-economy segment,” per a Wednesday news release.
The new-construction brand is “built on the belief that extended stays should feel less like waiting and more like living” and targets guests staying for a week or more, per the release. G6 unveiled the brand at its annual franchisee convention in Cancún, Mexico, this week, reflecting “the company's commitment to developing brands that address evolving market opportunities.”
The announcement comes as demand grows for extended stay hotels, a category lauded for providing durable returns to owners.
“Studio 6 Plus reflects how extended stays today are no longer just about having a place to sleep, they are about having a place to live,” Ankit Tandon, vice chairman of G6 Hospitality, said in a statement. “Across industries, we are seeing more people spend weeks and months on the move, and what they are looking for is a space that feels familiar, functional, and secure.”
Designed for professionals seeking extended stay accommodations with “security, space, and home-like features,” per G6 CEO Sonal Sinha, the brand targets skilled tradespeople, traveling nurses, technicians and workers supporting various construction projects, per G6.
Properties are expected to feature 60 to 150 rooms and feature amenities including kitchens with full-size refrigerators, stoves and microwaves; storage and closet space; bedside power outlets; smart TVs; and guest laundry facilities.
Addressing a “key gap” in the extended stay market, Studio 6 Plus properties include interior corridors to provide “enhanced security and a safer, more residential feel.” Additionally, some property design elements are engineered for easier maintenance and longer asset lifecycle to benefit franchisees.
With Studio 6 Plus, G6 is also launching a new fee structure, charging franchisees only for business the brand directly generates, not from third-party online travel agencies.
Dallas-based G6 Hospitality has nearly 1,5000 economy lodging locations across the U.S. and Canada. Travel and hospitality firm OYO acquired G6 Hospitality for $525 million in late 2024.
