Dive Brief:
- Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, alongside partner Reside, opened a 110-unit apartment-style property in downtown Los Angeles on Monday, according to a news release.
- Situated in a historic building, Reside Craftsman, A Wyndham Residence furthers the brand’s focus on adaptive reuse, design-led stays and “reflects a broader movement toward revitalizing architecturally meaningful spaces for contemporary living,” per the release.
- The property aligns with Reside, A Wyndham Residence’s strategy to “scale in high-demand urban markets,” brand president Walter “J.R.” Dembiec Jr. said in a statement. Reside Craftsman marks the seventh property in the Wyndham-Reside collection and the brand’s debut in L.A., joining properties in Scottsdale, Arizona; Philadelphia; New York; Seattle; Houston; and Washington, D.C., according to a company spokesperson.
Dive Insight:
Although Reside Craftsman is an example of a converted property, Dembiec said the brand is "building a Collection that isn't defined by one type of asset, but by a consistent and experiential brand standard bringing together location, liveability, and service across every property we operate.”
The building has kept elements of its historic past, including the lobby’s original Ernest Batchelder tilework, as it enters “a new chapter that balances preservation with thoughtfully elevated living,” per the release.
Units include a full kitchen, in-unit laundry, dishwashers and Roku-enabled televisions. Some room layouts feature sofa beds to better accommodate differing travel needs.
The property has a front desk staffed 24/7 and a dedicated on-site team, a model “designed to meet guests wherever they are, whether traveling for business, relocating, or exploring a new city.”
Reside Craftsman is targeted to business and leisure guests and is located near landmarks such as Apple Tower Theatre as well as galleries, entertainment venues and office hubs, “supporting Reside's strategy of aligning with high-demand, mixed-use urban cores,” per the release.
Wyndham first partnered with Reside in 2024, signing a 10-year agreement with the residential hospitality management company to grow its upscale extended stay portfolio. The hotel company initially entered the upscale extended stay market by partnering with WaterWalk, forming the WaterWalk Extended Stay by Wyndham brand in April 2024.
This comes as the apartment-style accommodation sector is growing across the board, with properties under Hilton’s Apartment Collection recently opening for booking. Additionally, apart-hotel company Kasa entered into a strategic combination with Mint House earlier this year, while Marriott International has plans to grow its Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy brand.
