Dive Brief:
- Apartment-style accommodations provider Placemakr is opening a property in Tempe, its second location in Arizona, next month, according to a news release. Placemakr Tempe, Apartments by Hilton, is now available for bookings ahead of its scheduled opening on Dec. 2.
- The newly constructed luxury property, part of the Apartment Collection by Hilton category, features 87 furnished studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom accommodations and is located within Shorehaven, a new community developed by Silverstein Properties, per the release. Amenities include a resort-style pool, game lawn, clubroom and fitness center, while the wider community will offer retail, dining, entertainment and office space.
- Placemakr Tempe, Apartments by Hilton comes as the greater Phoenix hospitality market continues to perform well, said Jason Fudin, Placemakr CEO and co-founder, while also building on Placemakr’s partnership with Hilton. “Demand for apartment-style stays is outpacing supply — so we're doubling down,” Fudin said, noting that Tempe is a “natural fit” due to its “mix of business, university and leisure demand.”
Dive Insight:
Hilton launched the Apartment Collection category in January with Placemakr to institutionalize home-style stays. At the time, the tie-up was expected to add up to 3,000 units to Hilton’s existing global inventory of roughly 10,000 apartment-style units.
Placemakr Tempe, Apartments by Hilton follows Placemakr’s first Arizona location in downtown Phoenix, which opened last October. Located on Vista Del Lago Drive along Tempe Town Lake, the property combines the comforts of apartment living with the “service and reliability of a hotel,” per the release.
The flexible-living property is situated minutes from the Arizona State University campus as well as downtown Tempe, which is known for its vibrant nightlife and historic charm, per the city’s website.
Meanwhile, the lakefront Shorehaven community was “envisioned as a dynamic, mixed-use community that brings together residential, retail, dining and hospitality,” Jamison Divoll, vice president of development at New York-based Silverstein Properties, said in a statement.
The property joins multiple openings from Apartment Collection by Hilton this year, including in Salt Lake City and Atlanta in April. In late September, Hilton opened Placemakr properties in downtown Pittsburgh and Huntsville, Alabama, joining an existing location in Austin, Texas.
Placemakr Tempe, Apartments by Hilton also arrives as other hospitality players expand in the apart-hotel space. For example, Hilton competitor Marriott International has Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts partnered with Reside in 2024.
And earlier this year, apart-hotel company Kasa entered into a strategic combination with Mint House, representing another competitor in the apart-hotel landscape.
