Dive Brief:
- Hilton opened two new apartment-style Placemakr properties in Pittsburgh and Huntsville, Alabama, under its growing Apartment Collection by Hilton brand, a company spokesperson confirmed to Hotel Dive.
- Placemakr Pittsburgh Downtown, Apartments by Hilton, and Anthem House – Placemakr Huntsville, Apartments by Hilton, opened Sept. 30, per the spokesperson. They join other hotels in Hilton’s Apartment Collection portfolio, including in Utah, Georgia and Austin, Texas.
- The openings “mark another important step in the continued growth” of the Apartment Collection brand, expanding Hilton’s presence in “two dynamic markets,” Michael Snapkoski, brand leader of Apartment Collection by Hilton, shared in a Wednesday LinkedIn post. The news also arrives as competition in the aparthotel space heats up.
Dive Insight:
The new properties are located in “fast-growing” areas, situated near culture and community, per a Hilton spokesperson. Placemakr initially opened both properties in 2025.
Located in downtown Pittsburgh’s historic Pennsylvanian building, the Placemakr Pittsburgh Downtown, Apartments by Hilton, is steps away from the city’s Cultural District and features a historic ballroom for meetings and events as well as cooking areas and in-unit laundry, according to its website.
Meanwhile, the Huntsville property, located within a luxury apartment building near the city’s MidCity District, features similar apartment-style amenities as well as an outdoor pool, a 24-hour fitness center and versatile spaces for meetings and events, according to its website.
The openings come after Hilton launched Apartment Collection by Hilton in partnership with apartment hospitality brand Placemakr in January. At the time, the tie-up was expected to add as many as 3,000 units to Hilton’s existing global inventory of roughly 10,000 apartment-style units.
The first two properties under the brand debuted earlier this year in Atlanta and Salt Lake City. Snapkoski was named brand leader of Apartment Collection by Hilton in April.
Other competitors in the apartment-style accommodations space include Marriott International, with its Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy brand, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, through its 10-year U.S. partnership with Reside, launching Reside, a Wyndham Residence.
Additionally, in January, apart-hotel company Kasa entered into a strategic combination with Mint House.
