Dive Brief:
- Omni Hotels & Resorts has completed a $40 million renovation on the Omni Amelia Island Resort & Spa, situated on 1,350 acres along the northeast coast of Florida, the company announced Tuesday.
- The renovation touched nearly every aspect of the oceanfront destination, including all 401 guest rooms and suites, its signature restaurants, spa and wellness facilities, public spaces, conference and events venues and more, according to a news release.
- The project “has elevated every part of the guest journey while creating a stronger sense of place,” Theo Schofield, area managing director at Omni Amelia Island, said in a statement. The renovation comes as Omni Hotels & Resorts undergoes a billion-dollar portfolio transformation, which Chief Commercial Officer Jeff Doane provided details about to Hotel Dive last fall.
Dive Insight:
The renovation on Omni Amelia Island aimed to blend “coastal luxury with the distinctive character” of the island, according to the release. As such, the guest rooms were redesigned with “layered textures, coastal-inspired palettes and design elements that reflect the island’s natural surroundings.”
Those influences carried throughout the resort, with the revamp incorporating Spanish moss-draped live oaks, which are “quintessential” to Amelia Island, as well as the island’s maritime history and native wildlife.
“We wanted guests to feel an immediate connection to Amelia Island from the moment they arrive,” Tonya Grine, vice president of interior design at Omni, said in a statement. “Every design decision was guided by the island’s rich heritage, natural beauty, coastal character and Southern charm.”
The renovation also enhanced the property’s food and beverage program, which now includes coastal Italian restaurant Nonna Mia, seafood concept Surfcaster, upgraded breakfast restaurant FloraBelle and the new Palmetto Press Coffee & Provisions market and cafe.
The spa at Omni Amelia Island also saw upgrades to its 19 treatment rooms, relaxation spaces and food and beverage offerings. The renovation added a private “outdoor serenity courtyard,” complete with new hot tubs, a cold plunge and lounge seating, per the release.
Meanwhile, the property’s meetings and events space was revamped, and the resort's family-focused Camp Amelia got a new Gamers Lounge. The renovation also added Little Sandy, a Beau Welling-designed short golf course and putting course.
The comprehensive project follows other restoration efforts by Omni, including the company’s $65 million transformation of the Omni Parker House in Boston, which was completed last fall.
In 2023, Omni announced a five-year, $1.5 billion commitment to support historic restorations, new developments and international expansion across its portfolio.
