Hyatt Hotels added The Georgian, a historic, oceanfront hotel in Santa Monica, California, to the Unbound Collection by Hyatt, the company announced in a Tuesday release.
The property, along Ocean Avenue and near the Santa Monica Pier, underwent a restoration by Los Angeles-based JB Hotel Group in 2023, which breathed new life into the building that first opened in the 1930s, per the release. The hotel’s facade was restored to its signature hue, and public spaces were preserved to reflect original design elements.
“From its unmistakable turquoise façade to its art deco detailing that nods to the glamour of Hollywood’s golden age, The Georgian carries a personality that is both confident and timeless,” said Tamara Lohan, global brand leader of luxury for Hyatt, who was named to that position in December. “Our role is to protect and celebrate that individuality — its history, its design, its sense of theatre — while bringing the power and global reach of Hyatt to support its next chapter.”
The hotel features 84 rooms, including 28 suites, with some offering views of the Pacific Ocean. Rooms reflect the spirit of the 1930s while still embracing contemporary elements. West-facing suites offer panoramic views of the ocean.
The Georgian also boasts a dining scene that “revives the hotel’s tradition as a social anchor,” according to Hyatt. The hotel includes a signature restaurant focused on seasonal Californian produce, an intimate bar inspired by its Hollywood-era past as well as an all-day cafe open to both guests and locals.
Cultural amenities also include The Library, featuring a curated collection of books ranging from modern bestsellers to vintage stories; and the adjacent Gallery 33, an on-site, year-round art gallery that showcases the work of international and local, Los-Angeles artists.
The Georgian is also featured on the Accidentally Wes Anderson website, which features architecture with colorful, symmetrical aesthetics reminiscent of the visual style that inspires filmmaker Wes Anderson.
The Santa Monica hotel joins the brand’s growing footprint in California, alongside Carmel Valley Ranch in Carmel, Hotel Figueroa in downtown Los Angeles, Kissel Uptown Oakland and Mar Monte Hotel in Santa Barbara. Hyatt first launched the Unbound Collection in 2016 as a global portfolio of upper upscale and luxury independent properties.
Hyatt has also been expanding its other independent collections, including Destination by Hyatt, Unscripted by Hyatt and the JdV brand, with a recent opening in Charleston, South Carolina.
During a fourth-quarter earnings call, CEO Mark Hoplamazian touted leisure travel for driving solid Q4 results, saying leisure transient RevPAR increased 9% year over year across luxury brands. He also anticipates Hyatt to experience organic growth in 2026, as momentum swells behind the company’s new brands.
