Dive Brief:
- Gencom acquired its first luxury hotel in Europe, the 308-key Rosewood London, the Miami-based investment firm announced Tuesday. CTF Development sold the hotel, a Gencom representative told Hotel Dive, though they did not disclose the sale price.
- The hotel — which Gencom had “coveted for many years,” the firm’s chief investment officer, Alessandro Colantonio, told Hotel Dive — marks its second owned Rosewood asset, following the Rosewood Bermuda. Rosewood London joins Gencom’s broader portfolio of luxury assets primarily based in the U.S., including the InterContinental Miami, which the firm announced it purchased earlier this week.
- As it plots future growth in Europe, Gencom plans to take a “fairly similar approach” to investment that it has for key markets in the U.S., such as New York City and Miami, Colantonio said. The firm has deals in the works in both regions as it targets upper upscale and luxury hotel assets with best-in-class brand partners, he added.
Dive Insight:
Rosewood London, with bespoke design and standout culinary offerings, serves as a “strategic entry point into Europe,” as Gencom eyes future growth in the region, according to the firm. In addition to London, the firm sees international investment opportunities across Paris, Rome and Madrid, Colantonio said.
Colantonio said Gencom has two deals in the works that could close in early 2027 — one in an international market and the other in the U.S.
London, in particular, is a market where the firm “maintains strong conviction in long-term growth and demand,” Colantonio said, noting that the global business and tourism hub is not dissimilar to the U.S. markets Gencom has targeted in recent years.
In addition to InterContinental Miami, Gencom purchased The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park in Midtown Manhattan earlier this year. The firm also reacquired a majority interest in The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove in Miami. And in late 2025, Gencom added the InterContinental New York Times Square.
“Take a market like New York, London or Miami — it's not going anywhere over the long term,” Colantonio said. “We tend to be long-term investors. We take a longer-term view of the world. In London, it's no different than the strategy we took in New York — where we can buy the best quality real estate in that market at a good basis with a good brand behind us. Over the long term, that's a great investment for us.”
According to Colantonio, Gencom is excited about the broader luxury hotel investment landscape in 2027 and has an opportunistic mindset when it comes to global growth.
Gencom will pay close attention to macroeconomic factors at play in Europe, though they are “not something that will scare us away from opportunities in that region,” Colantonio said. “Overall, I think there’s a lot more opportunity than challenges on the horizon.”
The firm will also continue to eye investment opportunities in New York and Miami and is open to expanding existing brand relationships or starting new ones, per Colantonio.
In addition to Rosewood, Gencom's portfolio currently includes Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Thompson Hotels, InterContinental Hotels, Andaz, Fairmont and Auberge Resorts.
