A new 800-room, 17-story hotel in Miami Beach has reached a critical milestone.

The U.S. arm of London-based Balfour Beatty has topped out the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach, a new hotel adjacent to the Miami Beach Convention Center, according to a July 30 announcement. 

Once complete, the hotel will contain 12 floors of elevated guest rooms, including 50 suites with views of Miami Beach, per the announcement. It will also include 110,000 square feet, throughout four floors of meeting and ballroom space, which will complement the convention center. That space will include an 8,000-square foot “grand lawn” located on the fifth floor rooftop amenity deck.

The hotel will also offer panoramic city views, a signature restaurant, lobby lounge and bar, as well as 17,000 square feet of retail space. In addition, it will connect to the convention center via a climate-controlled skybridge.

Future development plans include new public spaces, pedestrian-friendly promenades, bike-sharing stations and connectivity to public transit, per Balfour Beatty.

“The addition of a hotel of this size and its connection to the convention center has opened the door for literally dozens of major conventions and trade shows that have never convened here to now show an interest and a desire,” said David Whitaker, president and CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, in the announcement. 

Balfour Beatty initially won the contract in 2023 from developers Terra Group and Turnberry. The project was initially scheduled to start construction in 2023, but the timeline was pushed out until the construction team broke ground on the structure in April 2025. Balfour Beatty listed the contract at about $385 million at the time of groundbreaking.

The milestone occurs amid a broader dip in the hotel construction market through the second quarter 2026. However, Miami proper has shown promise as a recovering hotel market following the COVID-19 pandemic.
