Marriott International has terminated its licensing agreement with Sonder Holdings “due to Sonder’s default,” the company announced in a news release Sunday.
“As a result, Sonder is no longer affiliated with Marriott Bonvoy, and Sonder properties are not available for new bookings on Marriott’s channels,” the release states.
Last year, Sonder integrated with Marriott International via a strategic licensing agreement that added thousands of Sonder rooms to Marriott’s pipeline and portfolio. The partnership was expected to provide relief to Sonder stakeholders amid previous legal, operational and financial challenges.
In June, Sonder co-founder and CEO Francis Davidson stepped down, as did CFO Michael Hughes in August, just months after assuming the role.
According to Marriott, its “immediate priority is supporting guests currently staying at Sonder properties and those with upcoming reservations.”
