Dive Brief:
- Marriott International's JW Marriott brand made its Virginia debut with the opening of JW Marriott Reston Station in Reston, the hotel company announced Tuesday.
- The 247-room property in the greater Washington, D.C., area features Northern Virginia’s largest luxury meetings and event space, according to a release, with 40,000 square feet of flexible space including an 11,700-square-foot ballroom.
- The property’s opening also marks the launch of Marriott’s new Mindful Rooms concept, which are intended for “travelers seeking a more intentional and personalized stay,” according to Marriott, as luxury travelers increasingly prioritize wellness-oriented amenities.
Dive Insight:
The newly opened hotel is part of Reston Station, a master-planned community and the largest mixed-use, transit-oriented community in the Washington region, according to Marriott. The property has easy access to the Metro line that connects the hotel directly with Dulles International Airport.
The hotel includes 14 Mindful Rooms, marking the first time an open hotel has featured the concept, which are intended for “travelers seeking a more intentional and personalized stay,” according to Marriott. Mindful Rooms are designed to be calming, with natural textures, soft lighting and an alcove equipped with a yoga mat, light weights and other wellness tools.
Guests who book Mindful Rooms get a consultation to customize their sleep and wellness experiences upon check-in, and options for their stay include tailored turndown and tea services.
Across its portfolio, Marriott is currently investing in technology that enhances the wellness experience for its luxury guests.
JW Marriott Reston Station also has three food and beverage outlets: a modern restaurant with French and Mediterranean influences, a cocktail lounge and a café. The hotel’s food offerings include herbs and produce grown on the property.
Hotel restaurants are increasingly leaning on locally sourced ingredients to better immerse guests in their destinations, Stephen Toevs, Marriott’s vice President of culinary, global operations, previously told Hotel Dive.
JW Marriott Reston Station’s event spaces also include a dedicated support team and can host up to 1,300 guests, per the announcement.
“The opening of JW Marriott Reston Station is particularly meaningful for the brand, given its proximity to JW Marriott’s roots in Washington, D.C.,” said JW Marriott Vice President and Global Brand Leader Bruce Rohr, in a statement.
Marriott is expanding its JW Marriott brand in the U.S. — including to downtown Detroit — amid a broader luxury push.
