IHG Hotels & Resorts has opened a new Kimpton in New York City near Rockefeller Center, per a Wednesday news release.
Designed by Extell Development Company, the 33-story Kimpton Era Midtown New York is the first hotel under Extell’s direct management. The property intends to “serve as a launchpad for the modern traveler,” while also functioning as a lifestyle destination, per the release.
SLCE Architecture oversaw the architectural design, while INC Architecture & Design created the interiors. INC also led the 2022 renovation of Rockefeller Center, “allowing for the hotel to feel like a natural extension of its iconic surroundings.”
The hotel features 529 “petite yet thoughtfully designed” guest rooms incorporating soft neutral, olive and pastel tones, per the release. Expansive windows with views of the city are also in each room, along with a window seat. South-facing rooms above the 15th floor offer views of the Empire State Building and 1 World Trade, while select north-facing rooms offer Rockefeller Center and Fifth Avenue sightlines.
“We've designed every corner to be a sophisticated basecamp where the city's many eras converge, inviting our guests to dive into the hum and return to a space that feels like home,” said Kori Yonan, managing director of the hotel, said in the release.
Additionally, a self-service check-in counter on the ground floor allows guests to go straight to their rooms. The hotel lobby and reception desk are on the third floor.
The property also features four restaurants and bar concepts in partnership with Apicii, two of which are already open, including The Parlor, an all-day cafe, and Bar Rocco, a brasserie from Chef Rocco DiSpirito. Opening later this spring are Amasa, a steakhouse with a street-level cantina, and Jade Rabbit, the hotel’s rooftop bar.
Other hotel amenities include a 24-hour gym that spans 1,375 square feet and is equipped with Peloton bikes.
The new hotel joins other Kimptons in New York City, including Kimpton Hotel Theta in Times Square, Kimpton Ashbel New York on Park Avenue and Kimpton Hotel Eventi in Chelsea. Kimpton is one of six brands in IHG’s growing lifestyle and luxury portfolio, which includes InterContinental, Vignette Collection and Thailand-based Six Senses.
IHG is also expanding its Kimpton footprint across the U.S., including in the Texas Hill Country with the 210-key Kimpton Fredericksburg, as well as in California’s Napa Valley with the 123-key Kimpton Napa and in a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona with the 400-key Kimpton Miralina Resort & Villas.
