Dive Brief:
- Hyatt Hotels has opened Hyatt Centric Downtown St. Louis in Missouri, the first Hyatt Centric hotel in the state, the company announced Monday.
- Set in a historic building in downtown St. Louis from 1910, the 142-key hotel honors the property’s historic roots while also offering modern design elements and amenities, according to Hyatt. Additionally, the hotel offers access to nearby attractions such as the Gateway Arch and the Busch baseball stadium.
- Hyatt Centric Downtown St. Louis “gives World of Hyatt members and guests a new way to experience the city from the center of the action,” Bill Tirone, the hotel’s general manager, said in a statement. The opening comes as Hyatt expands Hyatt Centric, an upper upscale lifestyle brand, to urban markets across the country.
Dive Insight:
The hotel is located in a building initially constructed as the headquarters for Roberts, Johnson & Rand Shoe Company, a major player in St. Louis’s shoe manufacturing industry in the early 20th century, according to Hyatt.
The property has since been revamped to “uniquely connect guests with the city’s rich history,” the company said in a Monday release.
The building’s architecture features a “Sullivanesque design,” with slender vertical columns and Art Nouveau influences, per Hyatt. Historic touches carry over inside, where industrial-inspired rooms and suites feature high ceilings and oversized windows with city views.
The hotel offers multiple food and beverage options, including The Link, the hotel’s lobby restaurant and bar serving locally sourced New American dishes. The restaurant’s name is a nod to Theodore C. Link, the St. Louis architect associated with the building, per the release.
The hotel is also home to the Lobby Bar; Provisions, a 24-hour grab-and-go market; and Expedition, a seasonal bar and pool on the rooftop.
Additionally, the pet-friendly hotel has a fitness center and approximately 11,750 square feet of flexible meetings and events space, including a ballroom for more than 200 guests.
The opening comes after Hyatt debuted its first Hyatt Centric hotel in Ohio last year in Cincinnati. At that time, Dan Hansen, Hyatt’s former global head of Americas development, said the company was expanding the brand to “vibrant city centers.”
In the third quarter of 2024, Hyatt opened Hyatt Centric Delfina Santa Monica in California amid the company’s broader push in the luxury lifestyle segment.
