- The historic Gunter Hotel in downtown San Antonio has joined Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute Portfolio, a collection of independent boutique hotels, according to a Monday news release.
- The 311-key, music-inspired hotel, which underwent a $57 million renovation and reopened in 2025, “continues to honor its rich history while delivering a modern hospitality experience,” per the release. Its entry into Marriott’s premium brand collection “marks a new chapter for the iconic property.”
- The South Texas hotel joins a growing collection of more than 185 Tribute Portfolio hotels worldwide, lauded for their distinctive character and connection to local culture, catering to guests and locals alike.

A member of the Historic Hotels of America, Gunter Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel originally opened in 1909 and draws inspiration from its musical heritage with a recording studio, curated vinyl library and in-room record players for guests.
The property features four dining concepts, including Jots, Keystone Club, Bar 414 and Paris Baguette.
Marriott has expanded its Tribute Portfolio footprint across the country in recent years, including in New Orleans with Le Pavillion Hotel and in Park City, Utah with Hotel Thaynes. In March 2025, Canal House of Georgetown, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, opened in Washington D.C., which also marked Marriott's 1 millionth room in the U.S.
Gunter Hotel sits among other newly renovated properties in San Antonio, including The Monarch San Antonio, Curio Collection by Hilton; and the Sítio El Tropicano, which is currently undergoing a facelift.
To mark its debut as a Tribute Portfolio property, the hotel is also introducing a limited-time package for guests until the end of the year. It will also join Marriott Bonvoy’s loyalty program, allowing guests to earn and redeem points during their stay.
