Dive Brief:
- Choice Hotels International is growing its upscale Cambria Hotels brand portfolio with openings in Templeton, California; Tampa, Florida; Plymouth, Massachusetts; and Portland, Oregon, the hotel company announced Tuesday.
- The four hotels offer Cambria’s “signature contemporary design, thoughtful amenities and localized touches,” appealing to a range of guest preferences, Indy Adenaw, senior vice president of Choice’s upscale segment, detailed in a news release.
- The openings — in “high-demand and emerging markets,” per Adenaw — fortify Cambria’s existing U.S. portfolio, which Choice has expanded rapidly over the last few years amid a broader upscale segment push. The hotel company is plotting additional growth for Cambria, including in Canada.
Dive Insight:
With the 132-room Cambria Hotel Templeton, Choice opened the brand’s fourth property in California. The hotel company also opened the 104-key Cambria Hotel Tampa, the brand’s fifth Florida hotel; the 107-room Cambria Hotel Plymouth, the flag’s third hotel in Massachusetts and the greater Boston area; and the 179-room Cambria Hotel Portland, its first Oregon property.
The hotels join Cambria’s portfolio of more than 70 hotels open nationwide, including in New York, California, Colorado and Tennessee.
The brand has an additional 60 hotels in the pipeline, with openings scheduled for New York City’s Times Square and the burgeoning Fort Worth, Texas, Choice detailed Tuesday. Next year, the hotel company plans to open a Cambria hotel in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Choice announced earlier this month plans to accelerate growth in Canada through the acquisition of the remaining 50% stake in Choice Hotels Canada. News of the deal came after Choice’s U.S. RevPAR took a hit in the second quarter amid ongoing economic uncertainty.
Choice’s upscale portfolio was a bright spot for the company in Q2, though. Its upscale brands saw 14.7% year-over-year growth in global rooms in the quarter. With the recent Cambria openings, Choice’s upscale portfolio exceeds 110,000 rooms globally.
The hotel company has strategically expanded its upscale offerings in recent years, following its 2022 acquisition of Radisson Hotels America.
Globally, the upscale segment dominated hotel construction in the second quarter of this year, Lodging Econometrics reported Monday.
Hospitality management company PM Hotel Group will manage Cambria Hotel Portland, the firm announced Tuesday.
