Dive Brief:
- Apartment-style accommodations brand Roost, from hospitality management, development and design firm Method Co., opened a 35-unit property within a mixed-use development in Washington, D.C., growing its portfolio of apartment-inspired hotels, the brand announced Tuesday.
- With accommodations designed for both short- and long-term stays, Roost White House takes up the second and third floors of Foulger Pratt’s Accolade development, which is converting a former Department of Justice building into a luxury residential property. The Roost concept will offer a mix of studios and one- and two-bedroom fully furnished apartments with modern guest amenities, the brand detailed in a news release.
- Roost White House represents the brand’s first Washington location and eighth property in the U.S. The brand is actively expanding to new markets as competition heats up in the apartment-style accommodations segment.
Dive Insight:
Roost White House units offer a full-size kitchen, in-unit laundry and curated furniture, and are designed to accommodate stays ranging from a few days to several weeks at a time.
Like a hotel, the apartment-style units come with complimentary coffee as well as luxury bath products. In the building’s lobby, guests have access to a front desk associate and a 24-hour concierge who can help with local grocery delivery and other needs. Weekly housekeeping, with the option for more frequent service, is also available.
Additional on-site amenities include a complimentary bike-share program, a fitness center, a yoga studio and two private meeting rooms. The rooftop at Accolade also offers a reflection pool, communal lounges, fire pits, coworking spaces, a wet bar and catering kitchen, and a dog run.
The Washington hotel concept joins others in the Roost portfolio that aim to provide “the sophistication and service of a boutique hotel with the comfort and livability of an apartment,” according to the brand. Roost’s portfolio spans Philadelphia, Cleveland, Detroit, Baltimore and Tampa, Florida, and the brand is actively expanding to new markets, with a forthcoming location in Austin, Texas.
Placemakr is similarly expanding in the apartment-style accommodations sector, locating hotels within residential buildings. Mint House, meanwhile, has brought its aparthotel concept to converted real estate. And traditional hotel companies Marriott International and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts have recently expanded in the upscale extended stay segment with apartment offerings.
Hospitality professionals told Hotel Dive earlier this year that apartment-style accommodations are growing in popularity as more guests prioritize flexible room sizes, convenience and premium amenities.
